SRC 156: Burlesque (2010)
When your burlesque musical plays more like a narcissistic concert film than it does a fun, musical adventure, you know you've thigh high-ed your way into the Restroom...
BURLESQUE deals a small town girl (Christina Aguilera) who leaves her home in Iowa for the big lights of LA to pursue a singing/dancing career. When she discovers a New Orleans styled burlesque club run by Cher, she thinks all her dreams have been answered. What follows are 119 minutes of non-burlesque musical numbers, off the shelf plot points, overblown makeup, and the talented Alan Cumming reduced to the role of a doorman.
This guyliner mess is available for streaming on Amazon and YouTube, but as always, you're better off leaving this cinematic vanity project to us and go watch A CHORUS LINE again instead.
Sit back now and give a listen as Griffin, Polton, & Knight flush you down the Cinematic Bowl with, BURLESQUE...
